Hi everybody! Welcome! My name is Phoenix and this is my Shiba Inu named Kitsu and today we’re going to be doing a training video: How to teach your dog to sit.

So the command, “Sit” is probably one of the most popular commands ever. And the command, “Sit” is very important. But it’s also very easy. Now Shiba Inus are considered one of the most hardest dogs to train. It’s probably because they’re the most closest dogs related to wolves. And so Shiba Inus can be kind of wild and independent.

The thing you have to remember about teaching a dog any trick is: when the dog does what you want it to do you have to put a name to that trick and then you have to reward the dog because it did what you asked it to do.

So the reason why the command sit is so easy is because dogs sit normally every single day already. So, when you know that your dog is about to sit down and you say the command, “Sit” then when it sits down you’ll be able to give her a treat and she will know very quickly the command, “Sit” because she knows that “Sit” means to sit down and afterwards she’ll get a treat.

Some dogs don’t listen as well as other dogs so you’ll have a hard time trying to get them to sit. Some people like pushing their dogs butt to the ground. But that doesn’t work very well because the dogs just think that you’re playing because they don’t understand it. So the real trick to getting your dog to sit down is to stand up tall and be like, “Hey, I’m the boss around here.” Then slowly walk towards them and then your dog will start to walk backwards and eventually it will sit down. And if you have to you can back them up into a corner so that they will sit down on their own. And as they’re sitting down you say the command, “Sit” and once they do your command, you give them a treat.

So, Kitsu is smart and she already knows how to sit. But you can also teach your dog how to sit in other languages. Like French. Japanese. Or sign language.
